M’laya govt issues helpline number for people stranded in Sikkim
Northeast Desk, 6th October: In response to the recent natural disaster in the state of Sikkim, the Government of Meghalaya has swiftly moved to provide assistance to its residents.
A dedicated helpline, 1800-345-3644, has been activated to offer support and aid to students and residents of Meghalaya who may require assistance in the aftermath of this unfortunate event. The helpline’s primary goal is to address any concerns or needs related to the calamity, and the government strongly encourages affected individuals to utilize this resource for prompt and effective assistance.

The Indian Army has also initiated three helpline numbers to assist families of individuals, including soldiers, who have been reported missing in the aftermath of a devastating lake burst in Sikkim. This incident, triggered by heavy rains and subsequent flash floods along the Teesta River, has caused significant damage to homes and roads in the region.
The three helpline numbers established for the families of missing individuals are as follows:

Currently, the death toll stands at 18, with 98 people reported as missing, according to the Sikkim government. Among these missing individuals, 22 are members of the Indian Army. Ongoing rescue operations are in progress to locate the missing, with one soldier already rescued and reported to be in stable condition in the hospital.
