M’laya suspended Cong MLA Kimfa Marbaniang joins NPP

Guwahati: Suspended Congress MLA Kimfa Marbaniang formally joined the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) on December 29 in ahead of the Meghalaya assembly elections 2023.

Meghalaya Chief Minister and NPP National president Conrad Sangma also welcomed Kimfa Marbaniang to the party.

“Together, we will continue to serve the people of West Khasi Hills and the border areas and ensure we take them towards greater progress,” said Conrad Sangma.

On December 28, the Rambrai constituency Congress MLA Kimfa Marbaniang submitted his letter of resignation to Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh.

It is noteworthy that the aforementioned MLA, who has been suspended from the Congress party, will join the NPP.

Congress MLA of East Shillong Constituency, Dr Ampareen Lyngdoh submitted her letter of resignation to the party earlier on December 19.

In a letter addressed to the President of the Indian National Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge, Lyngdoh said that she has been a staunch supporter and foot soldier of the Indian National Congress and the party gave her the opportunity to serve the people of Meghalaya as a Minister and as a representative of my East Shillong constituency and also appointed her as Secretary of the All India Congress Committee and that she is grateful for the party’s support thus far but, however, due to the recent developments within the party led her to believe that it has lost its sense of direction. 

She stated that she no longer thought the Indian National Congress was the ideal platform for her to serve the people of Meghalaya and that the party had lost touch with them. She added that she is formally resigning from her main membership in the party with immediate effect out of deep remorse.
