Guwahati: Mobile data services have been shut off for five days in Manipur, an order issued by Special Secretary (Home) H Gyan Prakash informed on Saturday.
According to the order, the decision was made as a result of some antisocial individuals utilising social media to spread hate speech and inflame the public’s emotions.
The action follows a report from the Superintendent of Police of the Bishnupur district that three to four guys on Saturday night set a car on fire near Phougakchao Ikhang.
According to the decree, the crime has heightened animosity within communities.
Additionally, the Valley district would be subject to prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC for a period of two months starting on Saturday night, according to the District Magistrate of Bishnupur.
A tense atmosphere resulted from All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) imposing an ongoing economic blockade along the state’s national highways on Friday morning.

An organisation from the Meitei Leepun valley decided to lock the ATSUM office in Imphal on Friday afternoon in response to the imposition of the ongoing economic embargo.

ATSUM has been observing a complete shutdown in the tribally predominate hills of Kangpokpi and Senapati since the unscheduled introduction of the amendment legislation.
