Assam: Tremors from a moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter Scale were felt across parts of Assam and surrounding regions on the morning of January 3. The National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter was located in Myanmar.
The quake struck at 10:02 am at a depth of 127 kilometers. The precise coordinates of the epicenter were recorded at Latitude 24.92 N and Longitude 94.97 E. Reports indicate that the tremors extended to other Northeastern states, though official confirmation from the NCS is awaited.

This incident follows a milder earthquake of magnitude 3.9 that struck parts of western and southwestern Sikkim on January 2, causing mild tremors but no reported damages. The back-to-back seismic activity has heightened awareness in the region, which lies in a seismically active zone.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and further updates are expected as assessments continue.
