PM Modi lauds GeM for achieving order value of Rs 1 lakh Cr in a year
Guwahati: One-stop shopping On Thursday, the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), which is managed by DGS&D and allows common users to purchase products and services, passed a critical milestone. In a single year, GeM, a portal for government personnel to make procurements, earned an order value of Rs 1 lakh crore!
GeM saw 57 percent of the order value come from the MSME sector, a considerable rise over previous years. “Happy to learn that GeM has achieved order value of Rs 1 lakh crore in a single year!” stated Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The current fiscal’s procurement is significantly greater than the previous fiscal’s yearly procurement of Rs 38,580 crore.
It was Rs 22,991 crore in fiscal year 2019-20, Rs 17,462 crore in fiscal year 2018-19, Rs 6,188 crore in fiscal year 2017-18, and Rs 422 crore in fiscal year 2016-17.
Meanwhile, the number of vendors on the market surged dramatically from 1,396,468 in FY 2020-21 to 4,002,014 in FY 2021-22. In FY 2019-20, there were 347,254 sellers compared to 207,815 in FY 2018-19. Buyers increased to 59,130 in the current year, up from 52,096 the previous year.
Expressing joy over the development, PM Modi added that GeM is further empowering the “Aatmanirbhar Narishakti” with the launch of “Womaniya for Women entrepreneurs and Women-led Self-Help Groups (SHG)”, direct selling of handicrafts, handlooms, accessories, etc. directly to ministries and departments. It is also providing training for women entrepreneurs by various national and state women organisations.
