Mon Incident: After Rahul, Mamata Banerjee seeks justice for civilians
Guwahati: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged a thorough probe into the killing of people by security forces in Nagaland just hours after hearing of the tragedy in a district near the Myanmar border.
Talking about the “horrific” incident Mamata wrote, “Worrisome news from #Nagaland. Heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of those who were injured. We must ensure a thorough probe into the incident and ensure that all victims get justice!”
Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also slammed the Central government for the loss of lives at the incident.
At least 16 people lost their lives in a firing incident at Mon district in Nagaland on Saturday evening.
The incident allegedly took place when a group of labourers onboard a pick-up vehicle was on its way from Tiru village and the Army officials opened fire on them, suspecting them militants.
It may be mentioned that after the incident the security vehicles were set on the blaze by the angry civilians of the state.
However, the cops of the Army had issued a statement where they regretted the loss of lives at the incident.
