Monsoon Ride 2025: Bikers Swap Throttle for a Cause, Fueling Youth and a Drug-Free Sikkim
The roaring engines of the Open Road Wanderers Motorcycle Club echoed with a purpose this past weekend as their Annual Monsoon Ride 2025 revved up a strong message of social responsibility across Sikkim. This two-day event, more than just a ride, championed a drug-free lifestyle and offered a helping hand to young athletes, proving that the biker brotherhood is about more than just the open road.
The first leg of the journey saw a convoy of riders, in collaboration with the Brotherhood Bulleters and Crusaders Motorcycle Clubs, traverse from Singtam to Rukumtar. Passing through towns like Namchi and Damthang, they spread a powerful message against substance abuse under the catchy slogan, “Some do drugs, others pour bottles, we solve our problems with wide open throttle.” The campaign, supported by the Singtam Nagar Panchayat and Singtam Police, aimed to steer Sikkim’s youth towards positive pursuits and away from the clutches of addiction. Dignitaries, including Singtam Nagar Panchayat President Suresh Kumar Tamang and Special Executive Magistrate Ujjwal Pandey, flagged off the ride, underscoring the collective effort to promote a healthy, addiction-free future.
On the second day, the focus shifted from awareness to action. The riders, around 50 strong, made a special stop at the Bermiok Football Academy. Their visit wasn’t just ceremonial; they arrived with a tangible contribution, delivering five new footballs and a generous donation of Rs 18,000 to boost the academy’s programmes. Roshan Chettri, the chief of Open Road Wanderers MC, took the opportunity to inspire the young footballers, urging them to stay dedicated and work hard. He highlighted the club’s commitment to nurturing sporting talent and expressed his hope that future football stars would emerge from the academy’s ground. The event served as a testament to the club’s motto of riding for a cause, demonstrating that a passion for the road can also drive positive change within the community.
