Mother Teresa’s 113th Birth Anniversary: A Tribute to Her Compassion and Humanity

Guwahati, 26th August: Today, on August 26, 2023, we commemorate the 113th birth anniversary of Mother Teresa, an extraordinary figure who touched the lives of countless individuals through her boundless compassion and selfless service to the poor and sick.

Born Anjeze Gonxhe Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Macedonia, in 1910, Mother Teresa’s journey led her to join the Sisters of Loreto in 1928 and eventually to India, where she embarked on a path of profound impact. Teaching at a convent school in Kolkata, she felt a calling to alleviate the suffering of the most vulnerable.

In 1950, Mother Teresa founded the Missionaries of Charity, a religious order that spread across 133 countries, with more than 4,500 nuns embodying her mission. The Missionaries of Charity extend their care to the destitute, sick, orphaned, and dying. Their homes, orphanages, and hospices provide solace and support to those in dire need, accompanied by food, clothing, and medical aid.

Mother Teresa’s legacy is a testament to her unwavering kindness and empathy. She once articulated, “The greatest gift of all is the gift of giving.” Her tireless work earned her the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979, recognizing her dedication to the marginalized and suffering.

Though Mother Teresa passed away in 1997, her influence remains a guiding light for humanity. Her story underscores the potential of a single individual to bring about positive change.

On her 113th birth anniversary, we honor her life and achievements. We celebrate her boundless love, her profound kindness, and her relentless pursuit of service. As we reflect on her wisdom, we recommit ourselves to embracing her spirit, striving to create a more compassionate and just world for all.
