MP CM Seeks CBI Probe into Sonam Raghuvanshi’s Disappearance
Shillong: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has requested Union Home Minister Amit Shah to order a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the disappearance of Sonam Raghuvanshi, whose husband Raja was found dead in a gorge in Meghalaya’s Sohra area.
Sonam and Raja, a newlywed couple from Indore, went missing on May 23 during their honeymoon in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district. Raja’s body was found on June 2, but Sonam’s whereabouts remain unknown. The Meghalaya police have registered a murder case and are investigating, but the family has expressed dissatisfaction with the probe.
CM Yadav stated that he has discussed the matter with Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and senior police officials from Madhya Pradesh are in constant touch with authorities in Meghalaya. “Madhya Pradesh stands firmly with the family of Smt Sonam Raghuvanshi in this hour of crisis,” he said.
The couple had visited the famous living root-bridges at Nongriat village and checked out of a homestay on May 23. Their scooter was found abandoned on May 24, and Raja’s body was later discovered in a gorge. The family has urged the Centre to hand over the case to the CBI, alleging that Sonam has been abducted and is still in the clutches of her captors.
CM Yadav assured that all possible efforts are being made to ensure Sonam’s safe return. The investigation is ongoing, with the CBI probe expected to provide a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.
