Guwahati: Mrigen Sarania has taken sworn in as Mayor of Guwahati on Friday.
The BJP announced the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Guwahati on May 3.
Mrigen Sarani was appointed Mayor by the party that won 58 of the total 60 wards in the recently concluded Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) elections while Smita Roy, who previously held the position of Area Member, was named Deputy Mayor.
In the presence of Assam Minister Ashok Singhal, Minister Ranjeet Kumar Das, MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya, MLA Atul Bora, MP Bhubaneswar Kalita, MP Pabitra Margherita, and others, the newly elected councillors took oath at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra in Guwahati today.
The oath of office was administered by Kamrup Metro DC Pallav Gopal Jha.
