Mumbai, Kolkata & other Indian Cities’ Coastal States Will Be Under Water By 2030
Guwahati: Numerous cities will be soon submerged due to rising temperatures, melting glaciers and other factors. It may be mentioned here that even the most optimistic scenario in which global greenhouse gas emissions start to drop immediately away and are reduced to net-zero by 2050.
In this regard, a UN report stated that as the globe races to surpass the 1.5 degree Celsius barrier for global warming by 2040, India’s climate may change to include cycles of floods brought on by strong bursts of rainfall and an increase in droughts brought on by higher evaporation.
In addition, a new analysis from the nonprofit organisation Climate Central indicates that around 50 significant coastal communities will need to start unheard-of adaptation efforts right away to keep rising waters from engulfing them. Nearly all of Navi Mumbai, the Sunderbans’ coastal regions, the city of Kolkata’s environs, Cuttack in Odisha, and possibly the entire state of West Bengal would be below tidal level by 2030.
The future is imminent if sea-levels don’t stop rising. According to the map data, Kerala is also significantly more at risk than other coastal cities in the area surrounding Kochi.
