Muslim man hacks Hindu bus conductor with cleaver for ‘insulting Prophet’, arrested
National Desk, 25th November: In yet another shocking incident that occurred in Prayagraj of Uttar Pradesh, a 20-year-old man allegedly attacked a bus conductor with a cleaver during a dispute over the ticket fare.
The incident occurred when the accused named Lareb Hashmi a first-year engineering student, engaged in an argument with the vicitim, Harikesh Vishwakarma, over the ticket price.
Hashmi inflicted grievous injuries on Vishwakarma’s neck and other body parts before fleeing the scene.
Moreover, Hashmi sought refuge inside a college campus, where he recorded a video confessing to the crime.
In the video posted on social media, he alleged that he attacked the conductor for “insulting Prophet Muhammad” and accused Vishwakarma of blasphemy.
Hashmi brandished the cleaver used in the attack in the video, also mentioning the names of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Yogi Adityanath.
Meanwhile, the bus driver, Mangla Yadav, narrated the sudden attack inside the bus, prompting him to stop the vehicle. Vishwakarma was immediately taken to a hospital for medical treatment.
The Prayagraj Police apprehended Hashmi inside the college, where he was hiding. During an attempt to recover the weapon used in the crime, Hashmi allegedly fired at the police. In the ensuing exchange of fire, he sustained a bullet injury to his leg and was subsequently arrested. Hashmi is currently receiving treatment for the gunshot wound in a hospital.
Abhinav Tyagi, the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Prayagraj’s Yamunanagar area, reported that the police arrested Hashmi and registered a case under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Further investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Hashmi, a first-year student at United Engineering College in Prayagraj, resides in the Hajiganj area, and his father, Mohammed Yunus, operates a poultry farm in the city.
