Myanmar National Arrested in Mizoram for Possession of Heroin Worth ₹17 Lakhs

Northeast Desk, 15th September: In a major operation against drug trafficking, the Saitual district police in Mizoram seized heroin valued at over ₹17 lakhs from a Myanmar national on September 13. The seizure occurred during a routine check by the Saitual Police Station team at Keifang Dawrkawn.

The police intercepted a public carrier, a Sumo vehicle with registration number MZ01L-2167, en route from Champhai to Aizawl. Upon inspection, 592.57 grams of heroin, concealed in 50 soap cases, were found. The estimated market value of the drugs is ₹17,76,000. The narcotics were in the possession of Ni Dun Lian, a 41-year-old resident of Ngailan Village, Myanmar, who was a passenger in the vehicle.

A case has been registered under Saitual Police Station Case No. 47/2024, invoking Section 21(C) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (ND&PS) Act, and Section 14 of the Foreigner Act. Authorities have launched an investigation to uncover the broader smuggling network.
