Myanmar national with Pakistan links arrested from Assam’s Haflong station

Guwahati: A 30-year-old Myanmar national suspected of having ties to Pakistan-based outfits have been arrested by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) from a train at New Haflong station in Assam’s Dima Hasao district.

The arrestee identified as Noorul Amin alias Amin.

According to reports, Amin was detained from a train going for Bhopal after allegedly failing to present any valid documents.

According to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Amin boarded the Agartala-Rani Kamlapati special train from Badarpur railway station in south Assam on Sunday for Rani Kamlapati station in Bhopal of Madhya Pradesh.

Reportedly, when two travelling ticket examiners (TTEs) asked for his ticket and identification, Amin was apprehended. He presented them with a document stating that he was from Myanmar.

Amin, a Rohingya, was detained after he failed to produce any valid documentation proving that he was legally travelling in India. RPF sleuths apprehended him at the New Haflong station.

He was afterwards handed over to the Government Railway Police (GRP) stationed at New Haflong.

According to preliminary inquiry, Amin has financial interactions with Pakistan-based organisations.

Further investigation was underway.
