Myanmar Nationals Escape from Mizoram Jail After Seizing Opportunity During Recreation
Northeast Desk, 7th July: Two Myanmar nationals, Lalchhanhima (44) and Lalnunnema (31), fled from Serchhip district jail in Mizoram on July 6 during a recreational period, marking a daring escape from custody.
According to official reports, Lalchhanhima and Lalnunnema had been detained since June 10, 2024, following their arrest for possession of a significant quantity of AK-47 assault rifles. The escape occurred while inmates were engaged in a volleyball game during their recreational time. Seizing the moment when returning sports equipment to the storeroom, the two men made their getaway through the prison’s main entrance.
Authorities at the district jail have lodged a First Information Report (FIR) concerning the escape, prompting an immediate manhunt by local law enforcement agencies to locate and apprehend the fugitives.
The incident has raised concerns about security protocols at the jail and has intensified efforts to secure the facility and prevent similar occurrences in the future. Authorities remain vigilant as the search continues for Lalchhanhima and Lalnunnema, emphasizing the urgency of their capture to ensure public safety and uphold the integrity of the justice system.
