MZP Appeals to Governor for Release of Pending Tribal Scholarships

Aizawl: A pall of uncertainty hangs over the academic futures of thousands of tribal students from Mizoram as the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), the state’s prominent student organization, has formally requested Governor VK Singh’s urgent intervention.

In a letter submitted on Monday, the MZP implored the Governor to facilitate the immediate disbursement of long-overdue post-matric scholarship instalments affecting over 4,000 students.

The student body revealed that while a substantial number of applicants, specifically 26,909 out of the 31,000 who applied for the 2023–24 post-matric tribal scholarship, have received their entitled financial aid, a significant cohort of 4,027 students remains in anxious anticipation of the final instalment. Worryingly, the MZP highlighted that a considerable portion of these students are pursuing demanding technical and professional degrees in institutions located outside the state, making them particularly vulnerable to financial constraints.

Emphasizing the severe financial distress inflicted upon these students by the protracted delay, the MZP has earnestly called upon Governor Singh to personally appeal to the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The student body underscored the critical need for the prompt release of the outstanding scholarship funds, warning that any further delay could severely jeopardize the academic pursuits and overall well-being of the affected students. The MZP stressed that swift action is imperative to prevent potential disruptions to their education and alleviate the hardship currently faced by these aspiring young individuals.
