N Chandrasekaran Appointed As Air India Chairman

Guwahati: Tata Group has appointed Natrajan Chandrasekaran as chairman of Air India, which was confirmed by the board on Monday.

Earlier this year, Tata Group revealed that Turkey’s Ilker Ayci will take over as CEO of Air India, which sparked outrage in India.

As a result, Ayci later declined the position.

Chandrasekaran is also the Chairman of Tata Sons, the holding firm and promoter of over 100 Tata operating entities. He was appointed Chairman of Tata Sons in January 2017 after joining the board of the company in October 2016.

He also serves on the boards of Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tata Power, and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), all of which are part of the Tata Group. He was the Chief Executive Officer of TCS from 2009 to 2017.

Following a 30-year commercial career with TCS, he was appointed Chairman. He joined TCS after graduating from university and rose through the ranks to become the global IT solution and consultancy firm’s CEO and Managing Director.

He also became the Tata Group’s first non-Parsi and professional executive.
