Northeast Desk, 26th September: The Naga Peoples’ Organisation (NPO) and the Karong-Senapati Town Committee (KSTC) have jointly condemned an alleged attempt to set fire to the Shri Shri Pashupati Nath Mandir in Senapati, Manipur, on September 25. This incident marks the second attack on the temple in recent weeks, with the latest act resulting in partial damage.
Local sources report that CCTV footage captured a burning log being thrown towards a door inside the temple compound, while earlier footage showed a masked individual lurking behind a pillar before fleeing.
The NPO and KSTC emphasized Senapati’s reputation as a peaceful town that respects religious freedom, stating, “Any elements which work to break the social serenity is highly condemnable.” They urged local authorities to swiftly apprehend those responsible for the attack.
Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba also expressed his outrage on Twitter, calling the act a “barbaric” infringement of secularism and urging responsible citizens to condemn such violence. He stressed the importance of swiftly bringing the culprits to justice.
