Nagaland Anticipates Population Surge to 23,67,000 by 2030: Directorate of Economics & Statistics

Northeast Desk, 12th January: The Directorate of Economics and Statistics of the Nagaland state government has projected a population increase, estimating that Nagaland’s population would reach 23,67,000 by the year 2030. In comparison, the population recorded in the 2011 census was 19,78,502.

H Sethrongkyu Sangtam, the Advisor for Information Technology & Communication, Evaluation, and Economics & Statistics, released the projection indicating a growth of 3,88,498 from the 2011 figure to the anticipated 2030 population.

Providing a breakdown of the district-wise population based on the 2011 census, figures were as follows: Kohima – 2,67,988, Dimapur – 3,78,811, Phek – 1,63,418, Peren – 95,219, Mokokchung – 1,94,622, Wokha – 1,66,343, Zunheboto – 1,40,757, Tuensang – 1,96,596, Kiphire – 74,004, Longleng – 50,484, and Mon – 2,50,260.

The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, functioning as the nodal agency for official statistics in the state, conducted a comprehensive analysis of the 2011 census data, considering habitations and jurisdictions for both old and new districts. The resulting district-wise population estimates are crucial for effective planning and policy formulation, facilitating resource allocation for development initiatives such as roads, electricity, hospitals, schools, and social welfare schemes. The department emphasizes that these figures provide a foundational basis for informed decision-making and resource distribution.
