Kohima: Nagaland’s rising musical group, Fifth Note, has claimed victory in the 2024 Ticket to Hornbill competition, securing a grand prize of Rs 2 million in India’s largest band battle.
Held at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, near Kohima, the competition saw participation from 130 bands nationwide, with Fifth Note impressing judges with their “incredible tightness” and stellar performance, according to Abu Metha, Adviser to the Nagaland Chief Minister.
The grand prize was jointly presented by Nagaland’s Higher Education & Tourism Minister Temjen Imna Along and Metha at the event’s finale. The Prophets from Mizoram claimed the first runner-up position with a Rs 1 million prize, while Nagaland’s Project Anonymous finished as the second runner-up, taking home Rs 500,000.
Other highlights from the competition included special awards:
- KAPOW from Delhi won the Sennheiser Choice Award.
- Project Anonymous claimed the Best Vocalist title.
- Papersky earned the Best Drummer and Best Bassist awards.
- The Prophets took home the Best Guitarist award.
- Yugen was recognized as the Best Keyboardist.
The competition serves as a prelude to the 25th Hornbill Music Festival, organized by the Task Force for Music & Arts (TaFMA), marking a key milestone for emerging bands across India.
