Nagaland: Central Team Assesses Landslide and Flood Damage
Northeast Desk, 13th September: An inter-ministerial Central team, led by Anant Kishore Saran, Joint Secretary (Freedom Fighters & Rehabilitation Division) from the Ministry of Home Affairs, arrived in Nagaland to assess the damage caused by landslides and floods during this year’s monsoon season.
On Wednesday, the team, which included officials from the Ministries of Jal Shakti, Road Transport & Highways, Rural Development, and Finance, visited Zunheboto Town’s affected areas. They held a joint meeting with the Zunheboto District Disaster Management Authority and local departments to discuss the challenges faced by affected households and the extent of property damage.
Following the meeting, the team conducted a spot assessment in Alahuto Ward No. 5, where six houses and key approach roads were severely damaged by soil erosion and landslides in July.
Local officials, including Deputy Commissioner Rahul Bhanudas Mali, assisted the team. Victims of the landslides presented their grievances, and the team assured that necessary remedial measures would be taken to address the crisis and ensure public safety.
