Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio Launches Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme on 78th Independence Day

Northeast Desk, 16th August: On the occasion of the 78th Independence Day, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio launched the Chief Minister’s Universal Life Insurance Scheme (CMLIS) at the Civil Secretariat Plaza in Kohima. This significant initiative aims to provide comprehensive life and accidental insurance coverage to families across Nagaland, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring financial security for its citizens in times of need.

The CMLIS offers substantial coverage, providing Rs. 2 lakh in the event of accidental death or disability for the primary breadwinner and up to three family members. This scheme guarantees financial support of Rs. 2 lakh to the family in case of the primary breadwinner’s death, offering a crucial safety net during unforeseen tragedies.

Eligibility for the scheme extends to all indigenous inhabitants and permanent residents of Nagaland, including state government employees, work-charged and casual workers, as well as accredited journalists. While government employees are automatically enrolled with an age limit of up to 60 years, the general public can participate if they are between 18 and 50 years old.

Enrolment for the CMLIS began on August 15, 2024, and will continue until September 15, 2024. Families are urged to verify their details on the CMLIS portal by September 5, 2024. Those not covered under the Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS) are encouraged to register through the Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) in rural areas or at local administrative offices in urban regions.

The registration and verification process is designed to be user-friendly. Beneficiaries already under CMHIS must update their details via the CMLIS portal, including specifying the breadwinner and ensuring accidental insurance coverage. New registrants in rural areas can complete their registration through NSRLM representatives, while urban residents should submit physical application forms at local administrative offices before applying online.

Government servants are automatically recognized as the head of the family for the insurance policy, with coverage extending up to the age of 60. In cases where there are multiple government servants in a family, all can be acknowledged as breadwinners under the policy, ensuring comprehensive coverage for the entire family.
