Nagaland: Congress selects Wanglem Konyak for Tapi bypoll, vows to fight for change
Northeast Desk, 19th October: The Congress party has announced Wanglem Konyak as its candidate for the by-election to the Tapi Assembly seat in Nagaland’s Mon district. This by-election was necessitated due to the passing of NDPP MLA Noke Wangnao on August 28. The polling for the by-election is scheduled for November 7, and the results will be declared on December 3.
Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president S Supongmeren Jamir expressed the party’s commitment to fight strongly in the by-election. The ruling NDPP is in an alliance with the BJP in the state, while the Congress aims to stand for the people of the Christian state. The party hopes for the people’s support for a change.
Wanglem Konyak, in his acceptance speech, assured the constituency’s residents that he would work diligently for the development of the constituency and the state. In the previous election, Konyak had contested as the Naga People’s Front (NPF) candidate but lost by 82 votes to NDPP’s Noke Wangnao.
