Nagaland Congress Slams BJP Over Alleged Coercion of Municipal Candidate
Northeast Desk, 18th June: The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has accused Advisor H Tovihoto Ayemi and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of coercing Congress candidate Kanili Kinilimi from Ward 7 to withdraw her candidacy for the upcoming Dimapur Municipal Council elections. According to the Congress committee, Kinilimi was allegedly offered a nominated member’s berth in exchange for stepping down from the race.
Expressing deep concern over these developments, the committee has called upon the State Election Commission and the Nagaland government to take swift and decisive action to uphold justice. They emphasized the importance of restoring trust among the electorate of Ward 7 and the entire state.
In a strongly-worded statement, the Nagaland Congress Committee denounced such undemocratic practices aimed at undermining the will of the people. They urged all citizens to stand against such actions that threaten democratic principles.
“We strongly urge the State Election Commission and the Government of Nagaland to take up the matter seriously and ensure prompt justice to regain the trust of the affected Ward and the state as a whole,” the committee stated in a press release.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among political circles in Nagaland, highlighting the need for fair and transparent electoral practices ahead of the municipal polls.
