Nagaland: Countdown begins for Hornbill Festival

Guwahati: Nagaland government is all set to host the 22nd edition of the Hornbill festival at Kisama heritage village of Kohima which is scheduled to be held from December 1 to December 10, 2021.

This festival is the most renowned celebration of Nagas. There is a huge gathering for merrymaking in the form of drinking, eating, singing, and dancing.

The festival includes Tribes & Cultural Events, Rock Contest, Songs and Music.

Unlike other years due to pandemic, the programs will be celebrated with strict COVID guidelines.

The festival will start on Wednesday morning with the daily cultural performances will be held at the main arena of the Hornbill Festival.

Hornbill festival is also known locally as the ‘Festival of Festivals’.

The festival is organized by the State Tourism and Arts and Culture Department, Government of Nagaland. The celebration was started way back in 2000 Which includes folk songs and dance, traditional games, and some songs of their wars.

The festival will also host Cultural troupes from all 17 tribes within the state and will showcase their lively songs and dances in their colourful traditional attires.

The festival highlights also include the traditional Naga Morungs exhibition and the sale of arts and crafts, food stalls, herbal medicine stalls, flower shows and sales, cultural medley – songs and dances, fashion shows, the Miss Nagaland beauty contest, traditional archery, Naga wrestling, indigenous games, and musical concert.

It may be mentioned that the Hornbill festival is held at Naga Heritage Village, Kisama which is about 12 km from Kohima, the capital of Nagaland. All the tribes of Naga from the state and outsides of the state take part in this festival.

The ten-day-long festival unites one and all in Nagaland and people enjoy the colorful performances, crafts, sports, food fairs, games, and ceremonies. Traditional arts which include paintings, wood carvings, and sculptures are also on display.
