Kohima– In a heartfelt ceremony held to honor the sacrifices of police personnel, Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP) urged officers to renew their commitment to serving the people during the celebration of Police Commemoration Day.

At the event, DGP Sharma and senior officials paid floral tributes to 214 policemen across India who lost their lives in the line of duty in the past year, including four from Nagaland.

The DGP expressed deep gratitude for their unwavering dedication to safeguarding the nation’s integrity and ensuring citizen safety.

“On this day, we remember the sacrifice of all policemen who have laid down their lives in the line of duty throughout India,” Sharma stated during the Police Commemoration parade. “Their supreme sacrifices have paved the way for peaceful economic development, allowing individuals to progress and prosper.”

The DGP specifically honored four brave members of the Nagaland Police: Constable (Driver) Khetopu Awomi from the 14th NAP (IR) Battalion in Kiphire; Hav A Nikiye Tsuipu from the 10th NAP (IR) Battalion in Zhadima; and Constables (GD) Wetelhou Losou and Akangluba, also from the 10th NAP (IR) Battalion, all of whom made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Sharma also commended the efforts of all Nagaland Police personnel in 2023 for successfully maintaining law and order and conducting peaceful elections, including the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2024. He acknowledged the challenges they faced, particularly enduring extreme heat, and expressed appreciation for their vigilant service.

“Today is not just a day of mourning but a celebration of the selfless sacrifices made by our policemen and women, who have become immortal through their deeds,” he said, encouraging all police personnel to reaffirm their dedication to serving the public and securing the nation’s integrity.

The event concluded with the reading of the names of the fallen personnel, followed by a commemoration parade featuring 150 officers of various ranks from the district executive force in Kohima.
