Nagaland: Dimapur Naga Students’ Union Urges Stronger Action Against Rising Drug Abuse in State
Northeast Desk, 2nd October: In a renewed call for immediate and decisive intervention, the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed serious concern over the escalating drug abuse crisis affecting students and young people in and around Dimapur. Despite ongoing efforts by the Police Department and various civil society organizations (CSOs), the Union noted that the prevalence of drug use continues to rise at an alarming rate, posing a grave threat to societal well-being.
The DNSU, which has consistently raised the issue of substance abuse, stressed the disturbing increase in drug supply and sales within the district. This, they argue, exacerbates the challenges facing communities and threatens to derail efforts to foster a safe and healthy environment for the younger generation.
In a public appeal, the DNSU urged authorities to intensify their efforts and adopt more comprehensive strategies to tackle the drug crisis. “We urge the concerned departments to strengthen measures to curb the menace and escalate the fight against drugs, not only in Dimapur but across the entire state,” the Union said in its statement.
The DNSU also called on the government to establish rehabilitation centers to support individuals recovering from addiction. Additionally, the Union made a heartfelt appeal to churches and prayer centers, encouraging them to launch counseling and rehabilitation programs aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and offering support to those affected by it.
The rising drug abuse in Nagaland continues to pose a serious challenge, and the DNSU’s plea serves as a stark reminder of the urgency to address the issue at multiple levels of society.
