Nagaland: Dimapur Police Bust Interstate Gang Involved in Drugging and Vehicle Theft; Eight Arrested

Dimapur– In a significant breakthrough, the Dimapur Police have apprehended eight individuals from Assam, Manipur, and West Bengal for their alleged involvement in an interstate gang that drugged drivers and stole vehicles. The police operation, which led to the recovery of two stolen vehicles, came to light during a routine investigation into a missing person report filed at the East Police Station.

The investigation unveiled a sophisticated network of criminals operating across Nagaland, Assam, Manipur, and West Bengal. The gang’s modus operandi involved hiring commercial vehicles under the guise of prospective clients. Once the gang members befriended the drivers, they would offer them food items laced with drugs, rendering the drivers unconscious before making off with their vehicles.

Authorities have identified Shymalendu Roy from West Bengal as the mastermind behind this elaborate scheme, who orchestrated the criminal activities through a network of associates spanning multiple states.

Following a meticulous collection of digital evidence through technical surveillance, police arrested two gang members in Manipur, four in Assam, and two in Dimapur. The investigation was spearheaded by Investigating Officer ASL Ikato Sema and supervised by ACP East Imkongsangba Jamir, NPS.

In light of these incidents, law enforcement officials have issued a warning to commercial vehicle drivers and owners to remain vigilant. They are urged to be cautious when hiring clients and to report any instances of missing drivers and vehicles to the police without delay, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance in combating such criminal activities.
