Nagaland: Doyang Reservoir Water Level Rising, Public Advised to Stay Away
Northeast Desk, 8th August: Ongoing heavy rainfall in the catchment area of the Doyang River has caused the water level at the Doyang Reservoir to rise. If this trend continues, the reservoir may reach its Full Reservoir Level, prompting the controlled release of excess water through the radial gates of the Doyang Dam.
Residents are advised to avoid the downstream area of the Doyang River and the Foothill area, where the excess water will flow. The Wokha District Disaster Management Authority has also warned against engaging in activities such as bathing, swimming, fishing, and camping along the riverside during this period.
In a related incident, a major landslide on August 6 disrupted the Chakhabama-Zunheboto road, which is crucial for connecting Kohima, Pfutsero, and Zunheboto. The landslide, occurring about 11 kilometers from Kohima, resulted in significant blockage due to falling rocks and loose soil. With the monsoon season exacerbating the risk of further landslides, local officials are prioritizing clearing and stabilization efforts to mitigate additional disruptions.
