Nagaland: ENPO Stands Firm on Election Boycott Amid Unmet Demands

Northeast Desk, 29th March: The Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization (ENPO) remains resolute in its decision to boycott the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, citing unmet demands for the Frontier Nagaland Territory.

This stance was reaffirmed following a lengthy meeting at CKS Hall Tuensang HQ, which involved the Eastern Nagaland Legislature’s Union (ENLU) and a Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament.

ENPO President R. Tsapikiu Sangtam, addressing the media after the meeting, reiterated the organization’s commitment to the Chenmoho resolution, issued on February 23, to boycott both state and Central elections. Sangtam emphasized that withdrawing the resolution immediately is not feasible as it is a public resolution.

Despite an appeal from ENLU during the meeting to reconsider the decision to boycott the elections, no changes were made to ENPO’s stance.

Describing the meeting as a coordination effort, Sangtam acknowledged a communication gap between ENPO, ENLU, and the public, which has now been addressed. He affirmed that the state of public emergency in the Eastern region will persist.

Sangtam also mentioned discussions regarding a draft proposal handed over to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio by Union Home Minister Amit Shah earlier this year, but further details were not disclosed.
