Nagaland: Gaon Bura of New Market Area in Dimapur Gunned Down in Heinous Attack
Northeast Desk, 8th June: Abdul Kayum Talukdar, the Gaon Bura (Village Headman) of New Market area in Dimapur, Nagaland, fell victim to a fatal attack on the night of June 7. The incident occurred around 9:30 pm at Signal Bosti area near Axis Bank, where Talukdar was accompanying a staff member to a building.
According to police reports, Talukdar, aged 60, was shot in the back of the left shoulder from behind by unidentified miscreants. Despite being rushed to Faith Hospital by two individuals, he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the tragic incident, security forces and Dimapur police initiated a search operation in the area to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the heinous crime.
The killing has sparked outrage and condemnation from various quarters, including the New Market Business Welfare Committee Ward-19. In a statement, the Committee denounced the act as “heinous” and called for swift justice, expressing profound distress and horror over the incident.
Similarly, the Muslim Council Dimapur (MCD) has voiced its outrage and urged law enforcement agencies to apprehend the culprits and ensure they face the full force of the law. Ahidur Rehman, the working president of the council, lamented the loss of Talukdar, describing him as a respected leader who served the community with dedication.
The call for justice and condemnation of the brutal attack highlights the collective anguish and determination of the community to seek accountability and ensure the safety of its members.
