The mortal remains of the Governor were brought to the Besant Nagar Electric Crematorium where the last rites were performed. The casket, draped in the Tricolour, was carried by personnel from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, a fitting tribute to a life dedicated to public service. A ceremonial gun salute was accorded before the cremation, marking the end of an illustrious career.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin placed a wreath on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while Deputy CM Udhayanidhi Stalin paid floral tributes for the Tamil Nadu government. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, along with Deputy CMs Yanthungo Patton and T R Zeliang, the Chief Secretary, and the DGP, were present to bid farewell to their departed Governor. Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi, state Ministers Ma Subramanian and S Regupathy, and Union Minister L Murugan were also among the many dignitaries who attended the funeral.

Ganesan, a former RSS pracharak and a key architect in building the BJP’s presence in Tamil Nadu, was a soft-spoken leader known for his humility and ability to foster relationships across political lines. He was appointed the 21st Governor of Nagaland on February 12, 2023, and had also served as Governor of Manipur and West Bengal. His death on August 15 came after a fall at his residence days earlier, which had resulted in head injuries and his subsequent hospitalisation in Chennai.
