Nagaland Government Announces Rs. 1.5 Crore Reward for Paralympic Medalist Hokato Hotozhe Sema

Northeast Desk, 8th September: The Nagaland government has awarded a cash reward of Rs. 1.5 crore to Hokato Hotozhe Sema for his outstanding performance at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games. Sema secured a bronze medal in the Men’s Shot Put F57 event, marking a historic achievement as the first Olympic medalist from Nagaland.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio made the announcement on X (formerly Twitter), expressing immense pride in Sema’s accomplishment. “We’re proud & joyous for Mr. Hokato Hotozhe Sema on winning Bronze… He’s made India proud & Nagaland shine,” Rio stated. Along with the cash reward, Rio confirmed that Sema’s name will be recommended for the prestigious Arjuna Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to sports.

The Nagaland government also plans to pursue Sema’s promotion in the Indian Army, acknowledging his dual service to the nation both as a soldier and an athlete. Efforts are underway to strengthen sports initiatives in his name to inspire future generations.

Sema’s achievement has garnered praise from national leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who commended his determination and resilience during a congratulatory phone call. President Droupadi Murmu and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla also lauded Sema’s inspiring journey, with both leaders emphasizing his remarkable triumph over personal challenges.

Nagaland Governor La Ganesan and Deputy Chief Ministers TR Zeliang and Y Patton added their congratulations, celebrating Sema as a symbol of perseverance and excellence, both on and off the field.
