Nagaland Government Enforces Strict Stray Dog Management in Phek Town
Northeast Desk, 14th May: In a bid to ensure the safety of Phek town residents, the Nagaland Government has issued a stringent directive for managing stray dogs following numerous reports of dog bite incidents and concerns over potential rabies infections.
The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Phek, has taken decisive action to address this public health issue. An official order dated May 10, 2024, numbered NO.DCP/DEV/MED/2023/39, from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, highlights the urgent need for dog owners to vaccinate their pets against rabies.
The order, signed by Additional Deputy Commissioner Ruopfukuotuo Noudi, NCS, mandates that all dogs must be leashed in public areas to prevent straying and reduce the risk of harm to the community. The directive warns that any dog found uncontrolled within town limits may be seized or, in extreme circumstances, shot on sight by the relevant authority.
This measure aims to safeguard public health and restore a sense of security among Phek town residents, emphasizing responsible pet ownership and proactive prevention of rabies outbreaks.
