Nagaland Governor and BJP Condemn Derogatory Comments “Dog Eaters” About Naga Community
Northeast Desk, 8th November: Nagaland Governor, La Ganesan, and the state unit of the BJP have expressed strong condemnation for the derogatory comments made by senior DMK leader R.S. Bharathi. Bharathi reportedly labeled the entire Naga community as ‘dog eaters.’
Governor La Ganesan emphasized that eating habits are a matter of personal choice and should not be used to define an individual’s character, dignity, or value. He stated that stereotyping and belittling an entire population based on the dietary preferences of a few is not only disrespectful but also distorts the rich and diverse cultural identity of Nagaland.
He further asserted that branding the entire Naga community as ‘dog eaters’ is not only in poor taste but also maligns their culture. The Governor emphasized that a person’s culture, ethics, and contributions to society are what truly characterize them, not their dietary choices.
Governor La Ganesan highlighted the strong communal harmony that exists between the Tamils and the Nagas, whether in Nagaland or Tamil Nadu, as evidence of the immense respect both communities have for each other’s traditions.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders in Nagaland have demanded the strictest punishment for R.S. Bharathi for his reported comments. The Governor expressed deep disturbance and sadness over these derogatory remarks made about the Naga people.
