Nagaland Governor Lauds Women’s Role in Socio-Economic Development at Seminar on Unorganised Sector
Kohima: Nagaland Governor La Ganesan underscored the pivotal role women play in the socio-economic development of India during a one-day seminar titled “Women Working in the Unorganised Sector in Nagaland: Challenges and Opportunities.”
Speaking at the event, the governor remarked,
“Women play vital roles in the socio-economic development of our country but are usually the unsung heroines.”
The seminar, organised by the Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA) in collaboration with the National Commission for Women, focused on the challenges and opportunities faced by women in Nagaland’s unorganised sector, including street vendors and nano-entrepreneurs.
Governor Ganesan highlighted the challenges faced by women in the unorganised sector, such as irregular income, inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to financial services. He pointed out that, according to the 2021 e-Shram portal report, women constitute more than half of Nagaland’s informal workforce, with many serving as the primary breadwinners for their families.
He emphasized the importance of raising awareness about government welfare schemes designed to support these women, calling the seminar a crucial step in empowering them and aligning with India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
Praising the efforts of the Entrepreneurs Associates (tEA), the governor commended their initiatives in entrepreneurship training, environmental protection, and financial support for aspiring entrepreneurs. He expressed gratitude for their commitment to fostering sustainable development in the state.
Governor Ganesan urged all stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives aimed at empowering women in the unorganised sector. Recognizing their contributions, he noted, is essential for building a flourishing, inclusive society.
This seminar reflects a growing commitment to addressing the needs of women in informal sectors and promoting their integration into India’s socio-economic framework.
