Nagaland Hosts First Offline CUET for Undergraduate Courses

Northeast Desk, 19th May: For the first time, the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for undergraduate courses was conducted offline, with numerous university aspirants from Nagaland appearing at various examination centers across the state. The test, organized by the National Testing Agency (NTA), aims to simplify the admission process for students by serving as a centralized gateway for admissions to undergraduate and postgraduate programs at central universities across India.

In Dimapur, the CUET was held at six centers: Livingstone Foundation International, PM Shree Kendriya Vidyalaya, Project Sewak, Delhi Public School Dimapur, Hope Academy, Hollotoli School, and St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School.

However, the execution of the CUET faced significant logistical challenges. Unlike the more streamlined NEET, which features a single three-hour exam, the CUET’s administration involved multiple one-hour subject exams with intermittent gaps, extending the process for candidates and invigilators. According to some school authorities, this system caused undue strain, exacerbated by the summer heat and the requirement to manage question papers from early morning until late evening.

“In contrast, the NEET’s single three-hour exam format proved to be more efficient and less taxing,” commented a school official. Additionally, some candidates had to change examination centers due to the unavailability of certain subjects at their initially allotted center.

Addressing these logistical issues is crucial for the NTA to ensure the CUET fulfills its purpose effectively. Streamlining the approach, similar to NEET, could significantly reduce stress for millions of candidates nationwide, officials opined.
