Nagaland: Inauguration of Dimapur Municipal Office Marks New Era for City Development

Northeast Desk, 21st September: The Dimapur Municipal Office was officially inaugurated today at the Integrated Business Hub and Innovation Centre (IBHIC) by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. This event is viewed as a crucial step towards modernizing Dimapur’s administrative framework and improving civic services.

In his address, Rio urged the newly elected Urban Local Body (ULB) councillors to adopt a transformative vision for Dimapur, aiming to create a vibrant and livable city. He acknowledged the significance of peacefully holding ULB elections after over two decades, praising the councillors for their commitment and encouraging them to present development proposals for the upcoming 16th Finance Commission meeting next year.

Addressing the temporary status of the current municipal office, Rio called for plans to construct a permanent facility. He highlighted several pressing urban issues, including road repairs, traffic management, and waste disposal, revealing that a 10.74-acre garbage dump site has been approved for Dimapur.

Rio also tackled the challenges surrounding the city’s water supply, urging councillors to devise a comprehensive plan for ensuring clean and safe water access, cautioning against unchecked borewell drilling which threatens the water table.

MLA Moatoshi Longkumer and Investment & Development Authority Chairman Abu Metha also spoke, celebrating the successful ULB elections and encouraging the councillors to actively contribute to the city’s development.
