Nagaland Issues Advisory as Doyang River Water Levels Surge

Northeast Desk, 8th July: The Government of Nagaland has issued a public advisory cautioning residents to avoid downstream areas of the Doyang River amid rising water levels at the Doyang Reservoir. Continuous rainfall in the catchment area has significantly increased inflow into the reservoir, prompting concerns that it may reach its Full Reservoir Level soon.

Officials from the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Wokha district emphasized that if current inflow trends persist, authorities may need to open the radial gates of the Doyang Dam. This controlled release of excess water aims to manage reservoir levels but could potentially lead to rapid increases in downstream water levels and flow rates.

The advisory strictly prohibits activities like bathing, swimming, fishing, and camping along the riverside during the period when radial gates might be opened. These measures are crucial for public safety and to prevent accidents or emergencies due to sudden changes in river conditions.

Residents in affected areas are urged to stay vigilant, follow the advisory guidelines, and cooperate with local authorities to ensure their safety during this period of heightened river activity.
