Nagaland: Kohima DPDB Increases Funding for Village Adoption Scheme

Northeast Desk, 25th July: In a significant move to enhance village development, the Kohima District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) has decided to increase the funding for the Village Adoption Scheme (VAS) from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 3 lakh per constituency under the LADP Common Pool. This decision was made during the DPDB’s monthly meeting chaired by Vice-Chairman Kumar Ramnikant, with Chairman Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso in attendance.

The meeting also involved the scrutiny and approval of proposals under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP) for the fiscal year 2024-25. The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) provided a comprehensive report on the approved decisions.

A detailed presentation by the School Education Department revealed that Kohima district hosts 121 government schools and 97 private schools. District Education Officer (DEO) Kohima highlighted the successful distribution of free textbooks and uniforms, and noted the district’s achievement of no nil results in HSLC exams for the past two years. However, she stressed the need for further improvements in government schools.

The DEO also discussed various ongoing initiatives, including the PM-POSHAN scheme, digital infrastructure development, and a range of activities in government schools. These activities encompass Science, Maths, and Environment exhibitions, social and emotional learning for teachers, sports activities, self-defense classes for girls, vocational education, and special needs education.

Additionally, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department demonstrated water quality testing procedures and distributed testing kits to the board members. Presentations from the Mountain Trail Society and the All Nagaland State Carrom Association, both based in Daklane Colony, Kohima, were also part of the meeting. Following these reports, the board agreed to recommend the registration of both societies.

This increase in VAS funding and the approval of diverse initiatives reflect the DPDB’s commitment to fostering local development and improving educational and public health standards in Kohima.
