Nagaland: Kohima Police Issues Traffic Advisory for Smooth Hornbill Festival 2024

Kohima: In anticipation of the 25th Hornbill Festival, scheduled to take place from December 1st to 10th, the Kohima Police Department has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory to facilitate seamless vehicular movement and ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all visitors.

Key Provisions of the Advisory:

  • Heavy Vehicle Restrictions: Heavy vehicles will be prohibited from entering Kohima jurisdiction between 7 AM and 10 PM during the festival period. These vehicles will be redirected at checkpoints in Peducha and Khuzama.
  • Controlled Vehicle Access: Only vehicles with car passes issued by the Police Headquarters will be allowed entry to the Kisama venue through Gate No. 1. Exiting vehicles will follow designated routes via Imagiland or Rhododendron Resort.
  • Shuttle Service for Non-Pass Vehicles: Visitors without car passes will need to park at the Kigwema public ground and utilize a free shuttle service to the festival venue.
  • Alternate Routes for Dimapur-Bound Traffic: Vehicles heading to Kisama from Dimapur or Chumoukedima are advised to take an alternate route via Jotsoma, Nagaland College of Music and Fine Arts, Forest Colony, and Phesama.
  • Parking Regulations and Towing: Vehicles parked along the National Highway within the right-of-way will be towed without notice. Vehicle owners are urged to display their contact numbers on windshields.
  • Passenger Drop-Off and Pickup Points: Passengers can be dropped off 350 meters from Gate No. 1 and must walk to the venue. Pick-up for taxis and private vehicles will be at the Kigwema public ground.
  • Drone Operations: Prior permission from the Police Headquarters is mandatory for drone operations at the festival venue. Unauthorized use will lead to legal action.

The Kohima Police urges visitors to cooperate with the traffic guidelines and consider carpooling to reduce congestion. By following these measures, visitors can enjoy the festival without any traffic-related inconveniences.
