Nagaland Law Students’ Federation Challenges Health Department’s Recruitment Drive Over Procedural Concerns

Northeast Desk, 28th August: The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) has strongly opposed a recent notification from the Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) department concerning a special recruitment drive for 280 positions. The federation, led by President T Tohuka Achumi, Vice Presidents Tiakumzuk and Romika Zhimomi, has raised serious concerns about potential violations of fundamental rights and procedural irregularities.

In their formal representation to the principal director of H&FW, the NLSF expressed support for the Nagaland Medical Students’ Association’s demand for justice. They argue that the new notification infringes on constitutional rights guaranteed under Articles 14 and 16 of the Indian Constitution, which ensure equality before the law and equal employment opportunities.

The NLSF pointed out discrepancies between the recent notification and an earlier advertisement from August 4, 2020, which stated that appointments would be temporary for 12 months or made through direct recruitment by the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC), with no claims for regularization.

The federation is concerned that bypassing established procedures could lead to further anomalies and injustices. While they have welcomed the department’s decision to postpone the recruitment drive, they have warned of potential further action if the drive proceeds without adhering to legal and procedural norms.
