Nagaland Legislative Assembly Prepares for 60th Anniversary Celebration with Week-Long Events

Kohima: The Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) is set to mark its 60th anniversary with a week of commemorative events leading up to the main celebration on October 29, 2024.

Under the leadership of Speaker Sharingain Longkumer and Deputy Speaker S. Toiho Yeptho, the celebrations will kick off with a series of social work initiatives held within the Assembly premises from October 21 to October 25.

The milestone event, themed “Embracing Innovation and Celebrating Legacy,” will honor the Assembly’s history while looking toward the future. The Governor of Nagaland is slated to be the Guest of Honour at the main ceremony, where current members of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly, former members, ex-parliamentarians, and key officials will come together to commemorate this significant occasion.

Established after Nagaland attained statehood on December 1, 1963, the Nagaland Legislative Assembly convened for the first time in February 1964.

With its seat in Kohima, the Assembly serves a five-year term unless dissolved earlier. The upcoming 60th-anniversary celebration will reflect on the institution’s legacy while highlighting its dedication to innovation in governance.

The events will bring together prominent figures from across the state, offering a moment to reflect on the Assembly’s pivotal role in Nagaland’s political history and its ongoing contributions to the state’s development.
