Nagaland: Mokokchung Dries Up With Massive Alcohol Destruction
Mokokchung, Nagaland: In a decisive move reinforcing the state’s prohibition laws, authorities in Nagaland’s Mokokchung district recently oversaw the destruction of a substantial quantity of seized alcohol.
This significant operation, carried out under stringent judicial supervision, saw thousands of bottles and cans of illicit liquor go up in smoke, aligning perfectly with an order issued by Chief Judicial Magistrate Julian Stilhou, NJS.
The meticulous destruction process, executed with due adherence to all legal protocols, involved a staggering 5,436 bottles of rum, 336 cans of beer, and 48 bottles of whiskey. All these confiscated items were linked to a multitude of cases registered across the district, underscoring the relentless efforts of local law enforcement against the illegal alcohol trade. Prior to the disposal, Chief Judicial Magistrate Stilhou personally visited and inspected the site, ensuring every court protocol was followed to the letter, leaving no room for procedural lapses. The operation was efficiently managed by a dedicated Destruction Committee, comprising the Assistant Public Prosecutor, SDPO, DPRO, and the Police Inspector of Mokokchung, highlighting a collaborative approach to upholding the law.
This latest crackdown on illicit substances follows closely on the heels of major drug seizures made by the Nagaland police last month. In June, the state police conducted multiple successful operations, confiscating narcotics valued at a staggering Rs 15 crore and apprehending several individuals implicated in the illegal drug trade. A notable incident occurred on June 12, when the Narcotic Police Station (PS) under Police Headquarters (PHQ) intercepted a Hyundai i20 vehicle. This interception led to the seizure of approximately 5.95 kg of suspected brown sugar, an illicit substance valued at an estimated Rs 6 crore. The cunningly concealed contraband was discovered hidden in specially fabricated compartments beneath the driver and co-passenger seats, showcasing the ingenuity of drug traffickers. Two individuals from Rajasthan, Durg Singh and Matu Singh, were promptly arrested in connection with this seizure. Preliminary investigations have revealed that these drugs originated from Manipur and were intended for delivery to an individual named Bharat in Guwahati, Assam, further highlighting the interconnected web of the illegal drug supply chain in the region.
