Nagaland MP Urges Centre to Implement Agreements with Naga Political Groups
KOHIMA: Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland, S Supongmeren Jamir, has called on the Central government to expedite the implementation of two landmark agreements signed with Naga political groups.
Jamir, who also serves as the president of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), highlighted the significance of the “Framework Agreement” signed on August 3, 2015, with the National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN-IM) and the “Agreed Position” reached on November 17, 2017, with the Working Committee of Naga National Political Groups.
In his statement, Jamir stressed the urgency of honoring these accords, stating that they represent the culmination of decades of sacrifice and negotiation by Naga national workers and leaders. “The time has come for Nagas to stand in truth, walk the extra mile, and ensure that the hard-fought agreements are utilised as the basis to fulfill the long-desired aspirations of the Naga people,” he said.
Acknowledging the efforts of successive Central governments in facilitating these agreements, Jamir emphasized that the journey toward resolving the Naga political issue remains incomplete. He warned that delays in implementing these accords could undermine the trust and hope built over decades of dialogue.
“The sanctity of these historic agreements must be upheld, respecting the core principles and objectives that recognize the rights and identity of Nagas. We appeal to the government to implement the agreements without further delay, as it has been nearly a decade since their signing,” Jamir urged.
The call comes as Nagas continue to anticipate a resolution to their decades-long political aspirations, with many viewing the timely implementation of these agreements as critical to achieving lasting peace and development in the region.
