Nagaland: Naga Organizations Condemn Death Threats and Government Inaction
Northeast Desk, 2nd August: The Business Association of Nagas (BAN) and the Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) have issued strong condemnations against the recent death threats issued by NSCN/GPRN-K (Khango) against contractor K. Rulho. Both organizations have expressed frustration over the state government’s and Ceasefire Monitoring Group/Ceasefire Supervisory Board’s (CFMG/CFSB) perceived inaction on the matter.
In a joint statement, BAN officials—President L Mongkum Jamir, Vice-President (International) Dr. Yan Murry, and Grievance Cell Committee Member Maj (Retd) Vikuto Assumi—decried the threats against Rulho as “unacceptable in a civilized society.” They called on NSCN/GPRN-K (Khango) to retract the threats and instead support local entrepreneurs. The BAN also criticized the CFMG/CFSB for not enforcing ceasefire agreements, which it argues has worsened economic stagnation and insecurity in Nagaland.
DAYO echoed similar sentiments, condemning the threats as violations of Naga traditions and an affront to the sacrifices of past freedom fighters. The organization warned that such provocations could lead to increased violence and further destabilize the region. DAYO also accused the CFMG/CFSB of failing to address extortion and multiple taxation issues under the guise of ceasefire agreements and urged Naga youth organizations to unite against these challenges.
Both organizations have called for immediate action to restore order and ensure the protection of citizens’ rights and safety.
