Nagaland: Narcotics Worth Over Rs 44 Crore Destroyed by Authorities in Kohima
Northeast Desk, 27th September: In a decisive move against drug trafficking, the Drug Disposal Committee under the Inspector General of Police (CID) in Nagaland carried out the destruction of a significant haul of narcotics and psychotropic substances on September 26. The operation was conducted at the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) dumping site in Meriema, Kohima.
The seized contraband, which had been confiscated by the Narcotics Cell at PS PHQ between 2022 and 2023, included:
- Heroin: 500 soap cases, weighing 5.72 kg
- Opium: 44 packets, totaling 41.03 kg
- Yaba Tablets: 25 packets, comprising a staggering 2,49,400 tablets
The combined street value of these drugs was estimated to exceed Rs 44.53 crore.
Key officials overseeing the destruction included Dr. K.P.A Ilyas, IPS (DIG, CID), Shinde Suresh Kailashrao, IPS (SP, Narcotic), Dr. Mhalo, NPS (SP, Crime), and Joy Zeliang (Dy. SP, Crime). Representatives from the District Court, Kohima Municipal Council, Kripa Foundation, and other officials were also present, ensuring the transparency and legality of the process.
This action marks a critical step in Nagaland’s ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and safeguard public health and safety. The destruction of such a large quantity of narcotics underscores the authorities’ commitment to curbing the menace of illegal drug trade in the region.
