Nagaland: NSCN-IM to Continue Ceasefire Agreement Signed with Centre
Guwahati: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Isak Muivah (NSCN-IM) has stated that it will uphold the ceasefire agreement signed with the Union Government 25 years ago, even as negotiations for a permanent peace treaty are ongoing.
The NSCN-IM has released a booklet commemorating the 25th anniversary of the ceasefire agreement.
The NSCN’s ceasefire monitoring cell stated that it will ensure that the group follows the Agreed Ceasefire Ground Rules in letter and spirit in order to support the political dialogue to a logical conclusion.
The framework agreement signed on August 3, 2015 by the Centre and the NSCN-IM came after more than 80 rounds of negotiations, with the first breakthrough made in 1997 when the ceasefire pact was signed, ending decades of insurgency in Nagaland that began shortly after India’s independence in 1947.
However, the final solution has yet to be implemented, with the NSCN-IM remaining steadfast in its demand for a separate Naga flag and constitution.
