Nagaland Police Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Liquor Trade

Northeast Desk, 24th September: In a determined effort to combat the illegal liquor trade, the Nagaland Police conducted surprise inspections across the state on September 21, 2024, as part of a coordinated operation under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act of 1989. The initiative involved various District Executive Forces (DEFs) and *NAP/IR Battalions, resulting in the seizure of 9,583 bottles of liquor from multiple brands.

During the two-hour operation, police registered 28 cases at various police stations and arrested 30 individuals under Section 44 (e) of the NLTP Act. This crackdown underscores the Nagaland Police’s ongoing commitment to enforcing liquor prohibition and dismantling illegal liquor networks operating within the state.

District-wise analysis of the operation revealed significant seizures, with the highest number of illegal liquor bottles confiscated in Kohima (1,933 bottles) and Wokha (1,684 bottles). Notable quantities were also seized in Dimapur (1,752 bottles) and Mokokchung (1,268 bottles). The operation’s breakdown highlighted the extensive nature of illegal liquor activities across both urban and rural areas.

  • Dimapur: 1,225 bottles seized by DEF; 527 bottles by the 1st NAP Battalion.
  • Kohima: 1,869 bottles by DEF; 64 bottles by the 2nd NAP Battalion.
  • Wokha: 160 bottles by DEF; 1,524 bottles by the 13th NAP (IR) Battalion.

The Nagaland Police reiterated their commitment to rigorously implementing the NLTP Act, assuring the public that operations against illegal liquor trade will persist. Authorities are encouraging citizens to participate actively in the fight against illegal liquor sales by reporting any suspicious activities to their respective Superintendents of Police (SPs) or directly to police headquarters.

The police emphasize that the success of this initiative relies on community cooperation, urging the public to work together in curbing the flow of illegal alcohol in Nagaland.
