Nagaland Police Mourns Loss of Officers During Lok Sabha Election Duty
Northeast Desk, 7th June: Tragedy struck the Nagaland Police force during their dedicated service for the Lok Sabha elections, as three personnel made the ultimate sacrifice while fulfilling their duty.
In a solemn press release, the Nagaland Police shared details of the heartbreaking incidents that claimed the lives of three brave officers. The first casualty, Constable Yangtsase Sangtam of B Coy, 13 NAP (IR) BN, met with a tragic accident on May 23, succumbing to injuries sustained from a fall while performing Prime Minister’s Election rally duty in Patiala, Punjab. Despite valiant efforts, Constable Yangtsase Sangtam passed away in the early hours of May 25.
Acknowledging his supreme sacrifice, the Election Commission of India swiftly facilitated the transport of Constable Yangtsase Sangtam’s mortal remains to Nagaland, where he was laid to rest with full honors befitting a hero who laid down his life in the line of duty. In accordance with ECI guidelines, the government of Punjab extended an ex gratia payment of Rs 15 lakh to the late constable’s wife on June 6, offering some measure of financial support to his grieving family.
Tragically, two more personnel of the Nagaland Armed Police (India Reserve Battalion) lost their lives in Bihar during the GPE-2024 duty. The process for ex gratia payments for these fallen officers has been promptly initiated, with authorities committed to providing timely compensation to their bereaved families.
While no amount of compensation can alleviate the profound loss suffered by the families of the deceased officers, the Election Commission and Nagaland Police stand united in their resolve to provide assistance and solace during this difficult time.
